  • FD/YAC at the 4th UNAOC forum in Doha, 11-13 December, 2011
  • The UNAOC Forum brought together over 2,500 political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, youth groups, faith communities, research centers, foundations, journalists, ministers, and heads of state to agree on joint actions to improve relations across cultures, combat prejudice and build lasting peace. Under the theme ‘Intercultural Dialogue to Boost Development’, high-level debates on how advancing towards the goals of the UNAOC can contribute to foster sustainable development and, in particular, achievement of the MDGs, were conducted. The 4th UNAOC forum recognized youth as partners in the process of promoting intercultural dialogue boosting development.

    9 December – FD wins the first place at the ‘Econtent Award’ of Politecnico di Milano, Italy. It will represent Italy at the global WYSA event in Mexico in June 2009.

    14 July 2008The Communication Initiative Network has featured Forgotten Diaries in their Drum Beat Newsletter, an issue sharing recent illustrations of how children and young people are drawing upon communication strategies and tools to ease social tensions.

    7 July 2008 – A paragraph about Forgotten Diaries has appeared in the ‘Global Education Newsletter’ of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe.

    3 July 2008 Oxfam OIYP and Youth Action for Change – the organisation behind Forgotten Diaries – have entered into a working relationship on Forgotten Diaries.

    Forgotten Diaries is a unique and groundbreaking project that will showcase the lives and struggles of young people from specific conflict areas that have received little or no media attention.
    OIYP and Forgotten Diaries will be working together in order to deliver training courses for participants, develop content and strategy and raise awareness about the effect of these ‘forgotten’ conflicts on the world’s youth.

    – FD participants took part in an online two-hour chat with Ms Janeen Heath and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting yesterday.

    During this online chat, Ms Janeen Heath of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting based out of Washington, D.C. discussed best practices for preparing for and writing an article as well as conducting an interview. Discussion topics included the role of news in society, best methods for conducting a successful interview, why the wording of your interview questions matters, tips for writing a powerful article, journalism ethics, dealing with sources, the difference between public and private figures and why it matters and the importance of objectivity.
