Zero Under 18

The office of the special representative of the secretary general for children and armed conflict has been established in December, 1996 as a result of the report on Impact of Armed Conflict on Children  submitted to the General Assembly by Ms. Graça Machel, an independent expert appointed by the Secretary-General. Since then the mandate has been prolonged 3 times seeking to  draw international attention to the horrendous plight of children affected by armed conflict.

One of current and most important initiatives of  the Special Representative Office “Zero under 18” campaign aiming to reach the universal ratification of the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict by 2012. The campaign (http://zerounder18.org) is supported by Forgotten Diaries.
